If you are a bit of a telly addict like me then you can’t fail to notice the increasing number of bingo adverts hitting our TV screens. However, it does not stop there as with the popularity of bingo ever increasing it looks like bingo is becoming an option whilst watching TV as well.
Last night whilst flicking through my sky channels I came across 2 channels, Gala TV and Bingo on the Box specifically for live bingo as well as other gaming channels so I don’t think it will be long before more of the big names in online bingo are appearing on our TV screens as well. Wouldn’t it be great to see Foxy or Bucky from Foxy Bingo and Bucky Bingo respectively calling your bingo balls in their inevitable style whilst we have some funky disco music in the background?
Not only can you watch these channels live and play along but if you are a member at Sky Bingo you can press the red button from certain channels and then play along interactively. So what do these channels offer?
Not only can you play online at Bingo on the Box but they also have live bingo shows on satellite, freeview and cable channels throughout the day so you can watch your cards online whilst seeing the balls called live on satellite. If your bingo card is one of the one’s closest to bingo you will see your card appear on the TV screen in front of your own eyes.
Gala TV has been on our satellite screens since the end of 2006 and as you would expect from one of the biggest names in bingo, they have some fantastic cash jackpots on offer. To make the shows even more attractive to players they regular have ‘showbiz’ bingo callers, in the past we have had soap stars and some of the current callers are ex Big Brother housemates to tie in with Big Brother being on our screens this summer.
Hit the red button when watching the Sky One, Sky Two, Sky Three and Sky Real Lives channels to log into Sky Bingo TV using your Sky Bingo logon. You can then join in and play along with the online games on the website. You can choose to minimise your screen to only show your leading bingo card or maximise to show all your tickets.
However, ITV’s attempt to get in on the popularity of live bingo did not seem to work out as their Bingo Night Live program was very short lived. The first game was launched on 4 June 2008 and was presented by Melinda Messenger but the numbers were retired on 15 November 2008 after just 330 games.
Live TV bingo games have been a huge success in the US and Australia so I am surprised that this show did not work especially with the success of online bingo. Maybe it was the late night timeslot or the formula of the show that did not work but I think with a bit of a revamp it could be a hit. We’ll have to wait and see whether Bingo Night Live ever resurfaces onto our screens.
